Good Leaders Are Made, Not Born 

Club Mission: 
“To provide a mutually supportive and positive learning environment in which every individual member has the opportunity to develop oral communication and leadership skills, which in turn foster self-confidence and personal growth.” 

The Galfar Toastmasters Club was chartered on 30th June, 2009, as a capacity building initiative to inculcate leadership skills in Galfar Al Misnad staff. It was felt that developing essential communication skills would enable and aid our employees to go beyond their technical expertise and confidently take on leadership roles within the organization. 

Galfar Toastmasters Club (GTM) started with 25 members, and has just entered its twelfth year. More than 150 staff members have directly benefited from participating in its programs and activities over this decade. 

Within three years of its existence, members of GTM started participating in area contests, and by 2016, were participating in division level contests. Since then, GTM ensured its representation right up to the District level in the speech contest. Members of GTM have also demonstrated their leadership qualities by taking on various leadership roles beyond the club level, such as Area Director, Division Director, and District Officer. 

GTM is now considered one of the best corporate clubs in Qatar. 


Since Galfar Toastmasters Club was Chartered in 2009, it has received the following accolades and awards:

  • President Distinguished Club in Years 2011/12, 2012/13, 2018/19 & 2019/20
  • Select Distinguished Club in Years 2010/11, 2013/14, 2014/15, 2015/16, 2016/17 and 2017/18.
  • Distinguished Club in Year 2009 - 2010
  • Smedley Awardee in Years 2009/10, 2010/11, 2013/14, 2014/15, 2015/16, 2017/18 and 2019/20.
  • Talk Up Toastmaster Awardee in 2013/14, 2014/15 and 2019/20.
  • Beat the Clock Awardee in year 2013 - 2014.
  • Best Corporate Club in Division E, Qatar 2013, 2014, & 2015.
  • TM Venkatesan Served as District Speakers Bureau Chair 2018-19 & as District 116 Public Relations Manager for the year 2019-20
  • TM Venkatesan received the Best Division Director of the Year 2017-18 of District 20 ( Bahrain, Kuwait & Qatar)
  • TM John Henry won the International Speech Contest in Division E, Qatar, and represented the Division at the District Contest in May 2018 at Kuwait.  
  • Galfar represented the Area in all four speech categories for the first time at the 2018 Division E Conference.
  • TM K Venkatesan received the Best Area Director of the Year 2016 in the entire Division E, Qatar
  • TM K Venkatesan received the TM of the Year in 2015 for Division E, Qatar
  • TM Muhammed Hashir, TM K Venkatesan, TM Anil Prakash and TM Rajeshwar Rao have taken up Area Director Positions.
  • TM Alfonso Belito C. Betita is the Area 4 Director for year 2020 - 2021.

Galfar Al Misnad recognizes the important role that Sports play in creating leaders, nurturing team players, and boosting company morale and unity. It was this belief that led to the creation of the Galfar Sports Club, which offers the opportunity for all employees to participate in different sporting activities throughout the year. 

Galfar Cricket Club

GCC is the official cricket team of Galfar Al Misnad staff. GCC started playing competitive cricket in 2006, and they represent the company at tournaments in Qatar. The team is in the Premier Division of the Qatar Cricket Association (QCA). Our team’s stellar performance each year has seen them regularly reach the final stages at all major tournaments in Qatar, most of the times lifting the trophy as well. Galfar’s Team B plays in QCA’s C Division.

Mohammed Rizlan, the captain of our team, is also a member of the Qatar’s national cricket team and has been playing for them since 2010. In 2018, Gayan Buddika also joined Qatar’s national team. Galfar Cricket Club has its own cricketing facilities, including practice nets with flood lights; and a bowling machine.

To maintain the fitness of our players, there is an indoor badminton court near the cricket nets; in addition to the gym for all Galfar Staff near the Head Office. The team also has its own dedicated coach, Mr. Saman, a professional cricketer from Sri Lanka.

Galfar Football Club

Our workers football team competes every year in The Workers Cup Tournament (www.workerscup.qa). This is a major football tournament which brings together teams from different corporates in Qatar. Galfar Al Misnad’s football team succeeded in reaching the Semi Finals in the 2017 and 2018 editions of the tournament.

Qatar National Sports Day

The company organizes sporting events for the staff and workers to celebrate Sports Day every year. We have conducted athletic meets with contests in 100m, 200m, 400m, Relay, High Jump, Long Jump, Shot Put, as well as other sporting events for employees and their families. In 2015, in line with our company’s Go Green Campaign, we held a Qatar Sports Day run titled “Run For The Earth” at the Doha Corniche to raise awareness on environmental issues.

Galfar Premiere League

Galfar Premier League (GPL), our internal cricket tournament, is a unique event in which our staff and workers play together. Around 10-12 teams compete each year representing their respective departments. This popular tournament began in 2003 and since then, great enthusiasm is shown by all employees towards preparing for this event.

Staff members also participate in other sports like Badminton, Table Tennis, Carroms, and Chess tournament, within and outside the company. Likewise, the workers have competed in external Kabbadi tournaments.

Galfar Qatar
Galfar Arts and Cultural Club (GACC) is an employee engagement initiative at Galfar Al Misnad. It serves as a platform to showcase the diverse talents within the company and thereby foster a sense of community through cultural activities.

This recreational initiative is based on our belief that art, music, and literature are universally capable of bringing people together. Employees from all levels of the organization participate in the various cultural events that GACC conducts through the year.

The programs provide an entertaining diversion from the regular routine; boost morale; and give an opportunity for the workforce to gain self-confidence in a public setting. This enhances employee motivation and adds value to their performance in the workplace as well.
Galfar Classroom – Enriching Minds is a company driven CSR initiative that aims at enhancing the literacy level of the Galfar Al Misnad workers to help them lead more independent and enabled lives. 

Many of our workers have had little or even no formal education, which means they cannot read signboards and simple instructions which are written in English, whether it be at work or when they are outside in Qatar. This exposes them to the possibility of exploitation by others, which is not just a risk to their personal safety, but their financial wellbeing too. 

The Galfar Classroom – Enriching Minds program was thus created to equip our employees with the necessary knowledge to lead enabled adult lives. Volunteer members from Galfar’s staff conduct these one hour long literacy classes in English language and basic mathematics for the workers at their accommodation camps, in the evenings. 

The volunteers train the workers in English reading and writing skills, as well as the recognition and writing of Roman numerals. We also teach workers how to operate ATMs on their own, through a computer stimulated module in the class. As the company provides all salaries directly through bank accounts, these lessons have been particularly useful for our workers.
